The speech in response to the Uvalde school shooting by President Joe Biden, published on May 25th 2022 at 8:41 P.M. EDT one day after the incident, and held in the White House Roosevelt Room concerns the actions that should be taken in response to the Uvalde school shooting in order to try to prevent more similar incidents mainly in regards to gun control.

Biden says that gun laws are proven to work and mentions the assault weapons ban as an example, citing a decrease in mass shootings after its passing and then tripling again after the law expired. In addition to this, Biden is of the opinion that assault weapons shouldn’t be easily obtainable in a store because the only use for such weapons is to kill.
Furthermore, Biden states that the majority of Americans support common sense gun laws and that even though these laws might not prevent everything, they have a positive impact nonetheless.

Finally, in the context of coming back from a meeting from Asia, Biden says he realized during his flight that no other country in the world has such a frequency of mass shootings.
